Nice image! It appears the air is very hazy in this location? Not much you can do about that. Haze filters will have some effect but not a whole lot.. Try increasing your contrast via your black levels a few points and see how you like it then. The sky is great! You need a great title to take into account all the sky cranes.. ;o)

Ditto to Steve's comment about the contrast levels, and personally I might have cropped in a bit tighter ..a little bit off the top, a bit more off the bottom and a little off the right.

I think somewhere between the two..

It might seem counterintuitive, but one of the major goals of a nightscape or sunset is to get as much tonal range, or dynamic range, throughout the image as possible. Increasing contrast(black levels) decreases tonal range and if you go to far it makes the image more one dimensional.. most photos look 2 dimensional and some really great photos 3 dimensional.. it's all about getting as much of the available light recorded through the sensor and into a file as possible.

Essentially we do this with every image. Doing it right produces an image the 'pops' and doing it average.. looks average.

Your D700 is capable of capturing a large dynamic range.. so this should be an essential element/goal of your composition with most every shot. There will be some exceptions..

This is a nice image with Endless Possibilities.
I will post one soon of a similar ilk, but processed slightly differently.
