Bangkok Images server went down again for a few hours.  They server was right on top of things, but it was another outage.  Unusual.  I'll need to keep a closer eye on things.

I've previously mentioned I'm building a fairly complex website for a local band.  We're almost done and I hope to share it with you soon.  Building a site takes time, especially if you're working with artists to design the logo and colors/look of the site, but the real hold up as been the band itself.  They just haven't had enough time to move things along.  If all goes well I hope to finish the site in the next 10 days and will share it with you here.  It's a nice site and of course it features the band photography of Bangkok Images.  Below is a sample.

You probably noticed Bangkok Images has been out of service for the last 16 hours.  A denial of service attack hit our servers disabling thousands of sites and requiring them toi throttle back the bandwidth and slowly bring it back on line.  As of now everything looks fine.  Let's home they can keep the hackers from causing more disruptions.

I have several reviews I'm working on, the Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSD which is frankly the best 2.5" format SSD currently available.    Usually when you say "the best" concerning SSD's you're speaking of either speed or reliability.  Not this time, the Intel 520 Series Cherryville has both the top speeds and best validation in the industry.  A more detailed review to follow.

A short review will be coming on Seasonic's Platinum 1000w and 850w power supplies.  I haven't been this impressed with power supplies since PC Power and Cooling sold out to OCZ and hasn't built that same level of quality since.  I've been using Lightroom Version 4, final release, for about 9-10 days now and I'm pleased.  They've improved many of the existing functions and added new ones.  We'll be talking about that as well.

And finally look for a tutorial on removing annoying power lines and other distractions.  Look below for a before and after example.

We just put up some new articles which you can also find over on www.stickmanbangkok.com.  First, we have "Antropics Image Manipulation for Facial Features"  which is a good read on the ethics and the "should I" of altering facial features.  Next we have a great feature by BigJoe titled "Namsan Tower and Cityscapes", a fun S. Korean read.  We also have Lightrom IMport, NEX-7, RRS L-Bracket for the SOny NEX-7 as we answer some questions.  News For The Month of February 5th through March 3rd, 2012 with a fun look at the photo news.  Saving the best for last we have Thailand Photo Stories by Dana titled "Photographic Memories." I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times.  Dana's best work is on this site.  You might not recognize the man as you read this fun insightful stories.

There is often some confusion with what 'type' of camera, or what category it falls under, especially with all the new models out there.  Here's a brief primer which I hope will prove helpful to those with questions.

I just put up a review on Velodynes vPulse In-Ear Headphones. If you value  music with tight accurate bass then you'l want to read this review and get your own set.   I really didn't think it was possible to reproduce bass of this quality in tiny earbuds, but Velodyne did it.  I enjoy these immensely.

Dana has been doing all the heavy lifting with the Thailand Photo Stories area, I think some of Dana's best writing can be found among these submissions.  I wanted to make my own contribution so I just put up  Kings Along Men, Long Term Thailand Expatriates.   I realize it doesn't fit the genre perfectly, but better to expand the genre than to miss a good story.   Give it a read and let me know how you like it.  And how about jotting down your own Thailand Photo Story?   It's a great chance to get wide exposure.

I was feeling a bit 'blahhhh' today, right there on the cusp of feeling actual depression.  And then I read this article and marveled at this small wonder.  What great technical photography and what a great world we've been given in which to live.

I apologize for neglecting the site over the last few weeks.  I've had some significant personal events going on and haven't had time to even answer email so Bangkok Images hasn't been updated.  And during that week it seems like every major camera manufacturer has come out with a new halo product.   In the next few days I'm going to wrote a summary of all these new cameras, pros and cons of each, who would want them, how they compare to the models they replace, and my own person opinion about each model.  Look for it over the weekend.

For now I want to tell you about the Photo Fair at the BITEC Bangna center from February 15-19th.  Most every manufacturer and their newest products will be represented.  They sent me a PDF flyer and other than they forgot to change 2011 to 2012 it seemed accurate.   I've been to his fair many times and it's always worth the effort.

I was able to get the pull down menus working so we're back up to 100% operation.  Thank you for your patience.

For fun I'm building a pretty complex website for a local band, bigger and better than even this site.  I had great help starting this site from a web developer (mentioned on my site credits page) and I learned a lot working with him.  As I then managed my own site and took on my own repairs and upgrades I continued to learn.  So when a band manager I recently did some photography work for asked if I could build him a fairly involved website I said no.  But he persisted.  Finally, with a long list of caveats I agreed to do most of the "mechanical" work, bolt the pieces together so to speak, and then turn it over to a skinner for the final look.  I was surprised to surpass the function of Bangkok Images in less than 4-5 hours of work, and I didn't feel I'd suffered enough so I'm going to try and skin it myself just for the heck of it.  Why not?  Later on I'll show you the site and you can decide if I was just spinning my wheels or not.
