With the newest crop of great mirrorless cameras, DSLR cameras, and more ordinary point and shoots I'm asked the same question (or some variation of) time and time again: "Model A has more megapixels than Model C, so I should get it right?"

Camera manufacturers have recognized professionals know better.  With few exceptions the newest crop of cameras geared towards professionals including the new Canon EOS-1DX, Fuji x100, Ricoh GX-R. and others have less megapixels than their predecessors and instead emphasize more important features like higher dynamic range, high ISO performance, faster frame rates, and bigger and brighter viewfinders.

And they recognize amateurs are still buying the "more megapixels are better" myth and they're marketing those cameras accordingly.  24mp APS-C crop DSLR's, Sony's 24mp NEX-7, and many others.

The image below is a 1:1 crop from the Fuji Finepix x100 with it's excellent 23mm (35mm equiv) F2 lens which displays image acuity and detail only matched by the highest end DSLR's  It's only a 12mp APS-C sensor, but what a sensor!   What a camera.

One of my favorite genres of photography focuses on highway intersections and roads.  I love the clouds floating in tihe sky,the signage, the rough texture of the roads surface, and the symmetry of the roads as they cross.  What about you, do you have a favorite?

I was asked if memory cards made a difference.  They do.  In this brief piece "Which Memory Card Should I Get" we discuss card speeds, recovery software, firmware controllers, shopping for a card, counterfiet cards, and more.  If you'll be buying a new memory card soon you'll want to read this.

Some recently released articles are "2011 Floods, Bangkok Thailand" by valued contributor Kvweilink.  Nice photography of the floods with an interesting narrative.  Next, our Feature Photograph "UFO's in the Midwest" discusses an unusual color ball in the sky.  News for the month of November 5th through December 3rd has some interesting articles including a new process to tell if an image has been Photoshopped or not.

A biting article "Japan Disgraces Thailand" focusing on the Thai mindset and behaviors during the recent flooding.  No matter how you look at it or how hard you try to find a silver lining, there is no defense for the abhorrent behavior of the Thai politicians and many Thai citizens.  Some good news?  Stick contributed the great images for this article.

A frequent question is some variant of "Should I get newer model, or save money getting the model it replaced?"  I picked up such a question in a local forum and thought I'd share my answer with you here.  It concerns the choice between the original Canon EOS-5d or the Canon EOS-5D Mark II?   It's a tough question and I'm curious if you agree or disagree with the answer.

I've updated the Kindle Fire Running Review for the last time.  I've covered most every aspect I find worthwhile to discuss, and after using it for over a week I'm confident I know it well enough to comment.  It is for me?  You'll need to read the review to find out, you might be surprised.  I also discuss it's future with the public and the future I'd like to see such a device have with photographers.
