It's been a slow work and news week so I decided to dust off some old images I'd previously labeled as undesirable for one reason or the other and to see what I could do with them.  This one caught my eye.  Pretty girl head shot with old style black and white toning.  What do you think?

Have you been following our toning series on Cyanotypes, Sepia Toning, and Antique Toning?  This Saturday we'll cover Black and White toning and the last part of our series will be the following Saturday titled Toning For Effect and Fun.  Try some of these on your own, see if you can find an image that fits the toning type and see what you think.

I'm often asked about volunteer opportunities in Thailand, someplace where people can donate their time and effort to help make Thailand a better place.  There are the usual places in the Tak province along the Burma border and other places along the eastern borders.  But these places are often too far away for most and they can only visit them for short periods of time.

But what if you had a place you could travel to daily using public transportation and make a real difference?  There are many schools for the disabled without adequate staffing as told in this story in todays' Independent. They're not asking for help, but I doubt they'd turn away volunteers either.  I'm intimately familiar with the disabled and I can promise you these kids will show all the appreciate you'd ever expect and more.  You would make an everlasting impact on their young lives like no one else could.  All you have to do is walk into one of these schools and make yourself available.

Some of you have asked about the new Clustrmap feature on the home page, the bottom of the What's New Page, and on the About page.  Clustrmap is just a fun way for the site users to see who's visiting Bangkok Images and where they're visiting from.  It's NOT an inclusive hit counter.  All it counts is the number of direct hits to the Home Page and not the hits to the sites other 1000+ pages.  And according to Clustrmap it doesn't even count the Home Page hits as you'd expect, they say the hit count is often below that of Google or Yahoo.  I find this to be the case, the number of hits shown is just a tiny fraction of the overall hits reported by Google and Yahoo.  So, enjoy it for what it is, a fun home page counter which will let you know how many are visiting the Home Page only, and where they're  visiting from.   I did chat with Custrmaps and some improvements are in the works.  So let's home they make the widget more useful or I'll replace it with something else.
